Briefing

We provide a design brief to complete with your family. This helps us understand your property and your existing home as well as your needs, priorities, likes, dislikes and reasons for undertaking works to your home. We also ask you to compile images, ideas, and materials to hep us understand your vision.

We meet with you at your home to review and discuss your brief and take a look at the proposed site.

Timing: 2 -3 weeks (typically)

Concept Design

Using your brief we usually develop two preliminary design options for you (additional schemes can be produced upon request).

You select the option, or elements from both schemes that you like most to finalise the concept design.

Timing: 3-4 weeks (typically)

*At the end of this stage you can decide to continue working with Westgarth Studio through the Design Development phase, or, take the concepts to a drafts person for working drawings.

** development of additional schemes and 3D imagery can be provided at additional cost.

Design development

We develop a set of drawings that reflect what the building will look like. These drawings are developed using accurate site surveys of your property, council overlays etc.

​Timing: 4-6 weeks (typically)

Town Planning

We liaise with your local council on your behalf (if required) and prepare drawings in accordance with their requirements for submitting a planning application.

We can provide additional information or amendments to the documentation to manage any objections or queries that arise through the process.

Timing: varies

* At the end of this stage it's up to you what happens next. You may decide to continue working with westgarthstudio through the later stages of the process so that we can steer you through obtaining a competitive quotation and the challenges that arise during construction. Or, you may choose to take the contract documentation to a builder of your selection. It is entirely up to you!

Contract Documentation

This is when we develop detailed working drawings that specify the materials, fittings and fixtures to be used, in order to apply for a building permit.

Timing: varies pending project size

Contract Administration

Throughout the construction process Westgarth Studio acts as an impartial mediator between the builder and the property owner. We carry out site inspections to review progress and we ensure both parties are meeting the requirements of the contract.
